A Christmas Gift!

Saturday, it was Christmas as usual, but my best friend and I made plans to spend time with her two little girls, go to the park, after the arrival of Santa, who came ringing our door bell, and left so fast, that by the time the girls got up from bed and run to the door Santa was gone!! but there were some really cool gifts Santa had left behind for them! I marvel every time we have visitors and they tell the story over and over again with so much excitement! And a reminder that this day, is to show our family, friends, and those less privilege that Christ is real in our lives. And so, we did went to the park, the day was beautiful, we fed the ducks at a nearby Resaca, we flew a kite and then just run all over the park with the girls. But we also had plans to go to Matamoros, to share some of our blessings with kids that leave in the slums of the city dump

With the help and support of family and friends, we were able to put together 50 reusable bags, full of candies, toys, and nice stuff animals that we got as donations, or bought at the local flee market for fifty cents or $1.00, which we put on the washer and dryer, and stuff animals came up like NEW! It was so much fun putting the bags together, but even more fun we had when we when to a new colonia, visiting new people and making new friends!

There were four of us, members of CASA, who went there. We have much difficulty getting to this new place as there are no pave roads, and my car is so low, that many times, I thought we were going to get stuck. First we arrived at Brisa and Brendas carboard house. Two little girls who were playing at this horrible place where it is hard to imagine anyone could possible live in such a place. But Brisa was excited to have visitors, and run to her neighbors to get Brenda, her little friend and so we met both of them, nice girls. We ask what they were doing for Christmas and they look at each other, as if the concept was foreign to them! My friend asked them about Santa, and again, they look puzzled! So we didn’t say the bags were X-Mas presents, just gifts some people send their way! When they open, and saw the stuff animals, they started to run as if they had just received a fortune! Other kids knew about Christmas but were not expecting any gifts, so they were happy with our visit.

As it is hard to cross with donations in quantity, we only gave 25 bags on X-Mas day, it was nice to visit new people, and become friends with them. I promise them I will be back just to visit! As for the other 25 bags, we will distribute on January 6th the day of the Three Kings, who knows, maybe like the wise men, we might be touch by a miracle and meet someone that will change our lives forever!

God's Children, back to School!

Back 2 School,

B-Blessed a hundred Times!!

OK, so it is that time of year again, mothers running frantic getting everything they need for their kids. Going back to school season, is like a full time job for moms and students as well!

At San Felipe, we had hundreds, coming to get school supplies, living in the poorest colonia (undeveloped neighborhood) of the US, it is hard for parents to meet the needs of their children, especially during this time. So, we always hope to get donations that will help parents and children get a bit of what they need to go back to school.

However, even when we are the poorest here in the US, nothing compares to the needs of our brothers and sisters in the colonias in Matamoaros, they truly are the poorest of the poorest, so I decided to get with friends of CASA and raise some funds to provide some uniforms, shoes and school supplies for the kids in the slums of Matamoros.

We adopted a family of a girl that I know since she was 12, she is now 25, widow and with two girls. She use to work at Fuji factory in Matamoros, and made just enough to feed her kids and help her mother who takes care of the girls while she works two shifts.

Two months ago, she was laid off, visiting with her two weeks ago, Adriana was wondering if her beautiful girl Crystal was going to be able to go to school. She has not being able to find another job, and school supplies, and uniform are things she cannot afford. On top of it, she inherit two little cousins 8 and 9 years old. Her father was detained and the DIF, (Integral development of Families) in Matamoros institutionalized these two kids, because they have no mother (she died a few years ago). But because the economy is in such bad situation, DIF lack of funds, the department can no longer hold these kids in their institution, so they call Adriana, as she is the closest relative and asked her to pick up the boys. As generous and humble as Adriana is, she did not think twice, accepted these kids with open arms. In a week or so, DIF will bring them to their new “home” and Adriana will now have two more mouths to feed and two school kids to clothe. When I asked her how she was going to manage this new situation, with a smile on her face, and a lot of confidence, she said: Ya Dios dira, con su ayuda, todo ira bien!” God will tell, with his help, things will be ok!…Enshalla, Enshalla! I thought to myself, God willing, God willing, like they said in Palestine…

I did not want to give false expectations to Adriana, so in a matter of days I invited friends and members of CASA to think about the possibility of helping this family in need. And there was a great response, so I send a message to Adriana telling her, YES, Crystal and her two little cousins will go to school this year!

We received donations of clothes, and school supplies. Not only for them but enough for other twenty kids as well!, so My nephew and I went to Matamoros and visit long time friends of mine, and deliver new mochilas (backpacks) with school supplies.

For Adriana, we got not only school supplies, but clothes, and groceries, but we still need shoes and the uniforms. So we will continue the fundraiser to get these items. Thank you to all of you who responded to our call, God will give you 101% in return. For all the others who miss in this opportunity, there still a chance for you to contribute to this great cause. If you would like to donate, any supplies, food, cloths, please contact me at achucautli06@gmail.com or (956)4593205. If you are out of town and would like to send money, you can write checks to San Felipe de Jesus Catholic Church, and on the memo line write: Adriana’s fund – CASA project

With your contributions and blessings for God’s children, you will be blessed a hundred times…
